NovaStar Nova Mars LCT · Introduction · System Overview NovaStar Nova Mars LCT communicates with NovaStar sending and receiving cards, sensor monitoring and function cards to provide a user-friendly operating platform to control the configuration of an LED Display.

This includes precise control over display brightness, power, error detection, calibration and hardware monitoring to inform the Operator in real time from the PC desktop.

With Nova Mars LCT, the Operator can address point-by-point chroma correction of every LED and monitor the temperature and humidity, voltage and fan rotation speeds in every cabinet.

Nova Mars LCT V4.9.0 is compatible with:

 • NovaStar MCTRL Series Sending Cards (Controllers): 300, 500, 600·660

 • NovaStar MRV Series Receiving Cards: 200·210·220, 300·320, 330·340, 350, 360·365

 • NovaStar Monitoring Cards: MON300

 • NovaStar Multifunction Cards: MFN300

 • NovaStar Sensors: NS060C, MTH310

Installations rely on a Sending Card (also referred to as the Controller) connected to the PC using DVI or HDMI, and an USB or RS232 connection and then to the LED Display through Ethernet.

Where a Sending Card is not available, Nova Mars LCT may allow the Operator to connect the PC over Ethernet directly to the LED Display.

Nova Mars LCT runs on Windows 10 and legacy versions. CPU performance is a minimum of 1.0 GHz with 256 MB.

In practice, a modern mid-range consumer computer that is online is recommended.

When you first launch Nova Mars LCT, the Monitor Information window will display:

 • No screen, click here for configuration

These next steps will cancel that notification:

 • Connect the PC to the sending card using RS232 or HDMI connections.

 • Do not neglect to connect the USB (a common error).

 • Connect the LED Display to the sending card using the Ethernet cable.

Select: System · Reconnect which causes data to be communicated and the interface to update.

It is not necessary to have a Sending Card and LED Display to become familiar with the full Nova Mars LCT interface.

Before proceeding, go to the User menu.

In the sub-menu, select User Login and enter the default password: admin.

Logout and return to the User menu.

In the sub-menu, select Change Password and enter a password of your choice.

The Advanced User Login and corresponding sub-menus are now available.

For the purposes of this guide, Enter Demonstration Mode is selected to enable the full interface.
The Nova Mars LCT interface is easily navigated and understood once the Operator has become familiar with it.

For the purpose of this initial introduction, it is assumed that the software has been downloaded and installed onto a PC, but that no connections to the LED Display have been made.

This allows the Operator to become familiar with the interface without having direct access to the LED Display. Only the Settings · Tools menus will be the source of any modest challenge.

The Settings menu will introduce new terms and procedures to the novice, but will otherwise be familiar to those who have installed and operated LED Displays. Importantly, the Operator must gain an understanding of the Configuration Files.

Module Configuration File (*.module)

The LED modules make up the display area of a cabinet or panel. An example would be a quartet of modules each measuring 250 millimeters high and wide and used to create a single panel measuring 500 mm high and wide.

Module Configuration Files can be used for quick configuration of identical modules.

Receiver Card Configuration File (*.rcfg)

Receiver cards connected to modules require instructions to communicate correctly. In most pixel densities and sizes, a single receiver card will equip the collection of modules in a panel or cabinet. In special applications or with ultra-fine pixel densities, a second card may be required.

Receiver Card Configuration Files can be used for quick configuration of identical receiver cards.

LED Display Configuration File (*.rcfg)

The receiver cards will communicate some piece of an image or video file to the LED Display without regard to the order that the panels or cabinets are placed in. These instructions set out that order correctly.

LED Display Configuration Files can be used for quick configuration of an LED Display.

System Configuration File (*.scfg)

The combination of the first three files gives rise to the System Configuration File with all of the relevant settings.

System Configuration Files can be used for recover from a control system error or otherwise start an LED Display.


Select the Screen Configuration sub-menu to load an existing configuration file for the LED Display or create a new one.

🔘 Load Configuration File

Your LED Display requires a Screen Configuration File which is typically located on the PC, and accessed through the Load Configuration function.

Select and set the Communications Port to connect the sending board (controller) that is to be configured to the PC.

Select Browse to find the file. Note that if the file's location is unknown, search the PC using the asterix prefix to locate all files with this extension: *.scfg.

The selected Screen Configuration File will be automatically loaded to the LED Display system.

🔘 Configure Screen

Manually configuring a Screen Configuration File can be a challenge and not one that is easily condensed into a few brief instructions.

Select the Brightness sub-menu to adjust the LED Display for brightness, gamma and color temperature. The adjustment is either manual or automatic using a configuration wizard. Once the adjustments are made, save the new settings to the hardware.

🔘 Manual Adjustment

⮡  🎚 Brightness is adjusted using a slider bar with 256 levels.

⮡  🎚 Contrast is adjusted using a slider bar from 1.1 to 3.9 with a default value of 2.8.

⮡  🎚 Custom Gamma Correction provides a Soft Mode for low ambient light or Enhanced Mode for high ambient light.

⮡  🎚 Color Temperature Adjustment provides a Rough Adjustment Mode for warm to cool color and a Precise Adjustment Mode that is activated in Advanced Color Configuration.

Color Space offers a choice of PAL or NTSC settings with further settings available in Advanced Color Configuration.

🔘 Automatic Adjustment

Select the Wizard Settings to choose between Advanced Adjustment and Adjust by Light Sensor.

⮡  🔘 Advanced Adjustment

Configure multiple time points throughout the day, each with their own specified brightness and ambient light levels that are predetermined or changing conditions registered by NovaStar Light Sensors. The sensors must first be configured in the Light Sensor Settings.

Add the Night Mode setting to set a maximum brightness for the LED Display to counter readings from the Light Sensor - such as headlights - during evening hours.

⮡  🔘 Adjust by Light Sensor

Set just a single point in time for Adjust by Light Sensor. Note that sensors must first be configured in the Light Sensor Settings.

Select the Multi-function Card sub-menu to adjust the LED Display for brightness, gamma and color temperature. Note that this feature is only relevant to LED Displays that are equipped with a NovaStar Nova M3 MFN300.

Add or remove, rename or refresh an MFN300 connected to an Ethernet Port or Serial Port using the menu text or menu icons.

The Serial Port Operation requires that the selected serial port is either disconnected or is incorrectly matched to the MFN300. In this case, the Serial Port can be modified or replaced with one that is connected to the MFN300.

🔘 Power Management

The Power Management function extends control over a multitude of features that generally concern setting the times when the LED Display is activated and deactivated throughout the day and week.

Features include Start Delay, Start All, Emergency Stop, Manual or Automatic and Software Control.

⮡ 🔘 Manual

Setting the Manual option allows the MFN300 to control the power supplies with the Start and Stop function.

⮡ 🔘 Automatic

Set the Automatic option to power the LED Display according to the schedule. Select Send to send these instructions to the hardware.

⮡ 🔘 Software Control

Under Software Control, the schedule can be copied and pasted to other MFN300 Function Cards and the Log File can be accessed and the Power Custom List can be edited.

🔘 Monitoring Data

Monitoring Data will show temperature, humidity and voltage reported by the MFN300 Function Cards.

🔘 Peripheral Device

Peripheral Device allows for managing sensors including the Novastar NS060 Light Sensor and the NovaStar MTH310 Temperature Sensor.

Select the Multiple Screen Management sub-menu to create Combined Screens where the brightness and monitoring of more than one LED Display can be managed.

🔘 Configuration

Set the Combination Display Count and select Configuration to show the Combined Screen pages.

Set the Screen Count number of LED Displays to be combined into the Combination Display and select Configuration to reveal a map of overlaying rectangles representing those displays.

Left-click the first of those rectangles to show the Screen Information associated with the corresponding Serial Port from the drop-down menu. Repeat this process for the remaining rectangles.

Select the Hardware Information sub-menu to choose the Serial Port.

Where more than one controller is connected to the PC, the control system that is to be configured is set to the Current Operation Communication Port.

The Current Time of Hardware is the date and time of the current controller. Select Read to update the time and Set to match the controller's time setting to the PC.

The Serial Number of the Sending Card lists the serial numbers of the sending boards on the Current Serial Port.

The Hardware Program Version Information lists the Sending Card MCU, Sending Card FPGA and Receiver Card FPGA.

Select the Prestore Screen sub-menu to store an image that can appear on the display on startup or where a cable or DVI signal has failed.

Within Prestore Screen Settings select the path on the network to the image file.

The image can be stretched, tiled or centered to the LED Display or the individual cabinet and previewed.

Within Function Settings, the image can be Enabled on startup and the duration set.

Where a cable or DVI signal has failed, a black display, the last frame or an image file can be shown.

Select the Advanced Color Configuration sub-menu to review factory settings, configure the color space and the color temperature table.

🗀 Factory Setting

⮡ 🎚 Current Gain is adjusted using a slider bar for individual Red, Green and Blue settings. Default Value provides a reset.

⮡ 🎚 RGB Brightness is adjusted using a slider bar for Red, Green and Blue settings. Synchronize adjusts all three together and Save To Hardware does just that.

⮡ 🔘 Import

Import a color configuration file from the network.

⮡  🔘 Export

Import the current color configuration file to the network.

🗀 Configure Color Space

⮡  🎚 Original Color Space

Measure the CIE 1931 Color Space and fill out correctly using the original color space as basis for adjusting color temperature.

⮡  🎚 Target Color Space

The color interface will be familiar to most Operators experienced with setting the coefficients of the color space.

⮡  🔘 PAL  ⭢ 🔘 NTSC

Standard PAL and NTSC settings can be set and then adjusted.

⮡  🔘 Enable Color Space Adjustment  ⭢ 🔘 X  ⭢ 🔘 Send  ⭢ 🔘 Save To Hardware

When selected, the target color space values can be applied to the entire LED Display. Name and save the customized color space for further use, or delete the file. Send or Save to hardware.

Add or Edit, Delete or Clear Color Temperature Tables. Save the results to the local space.

🗀 Color Adjustment

Use sliders to adjust the hue, contrast and saturation of the LED Display. Note that this function only currently supports the Nova Pro HD.

Select the Adjust Screen Effect sub-menu to adjust the LED Display to produce finer images.

⮡ 🔘 Enable 18-bit mode

This function improves on the gray scale by up to 400 percent.

⮡ 🔘 Enable ClearView

ClearView automatically adjusts the texture and contrast of images for greater details.

Select the Cloud Monitoring sub-menu to access NovaStar Nova iCare.

Enter a User Name and the name of the LED Display.

Select the Module Flash sub-menu for LED Displays equipped with Memory On Module. Confirm that the Current Operating Serial Port is the same as that of the connected sending card.

Test the memory for normal operation. This may include hardware failure, communication errors or the failure to properly configure in Display Configuration.

Set the parameters of the relay module for its receiving card.

These include the temperature of closing and disconnecting and accumulated time. When complete, send these parameters to the receiving card.

It will introduce the method that select and cancel the edge or vertex as follows: take cabinet topological graph as an example, the operation of topological graph of module is the same as topological graph of the cabinet Step 4 Using the mouse to directly click the four edges or vertices of the box body selected, click firstly to select, click secondly to cancel. Display Serial number: If checked, the number is displayed on the screen that is convenient for the user to find the bright dark lines.  Lock selection: if selected bright dark side, check it that will be locked to avoid accidentally cancel or multiple select.  Hide topological: check it to hide the topological graph. 1. Select the Recover Dark Or Bright Lines sub-menu to to improve the appearance of the LED Display.

All parameters will be recorded in the dark / bright-line configuration files once the dark or bright lines are adjusted. The method for recovering dark or bright lines is to load the ark / bright-line configuration file to recover the display to the last dark or bright lines. If this file is used for several times, adjusted parameters of those previous recovering dark or bright lines will be recovered accordingly. Method for recovering dark or bright lines Click “Tools” → “Dark or Bright Lines Adjustment for Cabinet” → “Dark or Bright lines Recover for Cabinet” on the LCT main interface. Select the display for dark / bright line reducing, click “Browse” to load the dark / bright line file in relation to the display and then click “Reduce” to reduce them to the last ones.

Select the Video Control sub-menu to access display effects and set the input, output and splice parameters for a single LED Display.

Select the correct input source and uncheck 'enable zooming'.

🗀 Input Setting

Three input settings include a full pixel image (no zooming), the image adjusted automatically to the corresponding LED Display (enable and full zooming), and custom sizing to select a portion of the image (enable zooming) to be shown on the corresponding LED Display.

🗀 Output Setting

Output setting Click “Output setting” to configure the output window, if there is only one single device, then the area size is smaller or equals to the size of LED Display; if there are multiple devices, it’s needed to configure the starting points and area size of each device, the sum of all areas is smaller or equals to the size of LED Display; after the window is configured, images can only be displayed inside the window.

🗀 Stitching Management

First enable the stitching function, then set the total number of pixels in the big screen, then configure the area driven by each device, as well as the starting location of each loaded area. The sum of loaded area of all video controllers is the number of total pixels on the big screen. :Press this button, the selected device will output a pixel-to-pixel image.

Select the Module ID Setting sub-menu to configure an ID for each module. This is an important function in large LED Displays.

🔘 Refresh

Select Refresh to read the current module ID and status which will be shown in a topology.

Enter the term 'setid' in the settings to generate the module ID and save.

Set an optional prefix to the serial number and order the modules horizontally (Z) or vertically (N) or by serial number.

Double-click any module to modify the ID.

Select the Test Tool sub-menu to run a series of simple diagnostic tests on the LED Display.

We can ship your order by air or ground as your budget and time allows. Shipping and Customs schedules can be estimated, but are external variables that are outside of our control. Allow plenty of time for unexpected delays. You would not believe how many National Holidays are observed in China. Seriously.

Install

Your installation will include a PC for content and a NovaStar controller to direct that content to the display. There will be power and data cables to hook everything up and a frame or support beams to mount your display. If you need assistance with this, Telematics can often suggest a local partner.

Service

NovaStar provides their full technical expertise to assist Telematics and our clients with any issues where we have requested their assistance. Most problems are diagnosed and resolved very quickly using remote access software, Skype and webcams or a simple exchange of emails and phone calls.
