Visual Planet Interactive Touch Foil can be installed using one of 4 methods.

Permanent Double Release is an optically clear permanent adhesive applied during production and is suitable for installation to either glass or acrylic. This option is intended as for long-term applications and subsequent removal will damage the Touch Foil.
Permanent Double Release is suitable for all sizes of Touch Foils.

Permanent Clean Peel Double Release is an optically clear adhesive applied during production and is suitable for installation to glass. This option allows the Touch Foil to be removed and relocated without leaving any residue for up to 1 year.
Permanent Clean Peel Double Release is suitable for Touch Foils no larger than 74" in a 4:3 format or 92" in a 16:9 format.

Cling Film relies on a static charge to attach only to glass. The Touch Foil is then applied to the Cling Film. Where the Touch Foil might be later relocated, the Cling Film offers the advantage of easy removal and the potential for additional use or inexpensive replacement.
Cling Film is suitable for Touch Foils no larger than 88" in a 4:3 format or 108" in a 16:9 format.

For some applications, there is no need for any Mounting System. The installer has the option of simply placing the Touch Foil between 2 layers of glass or acrylic. This substrate is clamped together at the edges and serves to hold the Touch Foil in place.
This option has the further advantage of isolating the Touch Foil from any damage from either side and allows the client to relocate the components at a future date. We recommend including a Cling Film in your order to have on hand if you anticipate that you may want to later apply the Touch Foil directly onto glass.
We recommend the use of a Professional Installer in any application of Visual Planet Interactive Touch Foils.
For all but the smallest units, 2 people are required for the installation.
Handle the Touch Foil carefully to avoid creasing or tearing of the material. Never lay the Touch Foil on any surface that can cause scratches.
If the Touch Foil requires cleaning, use a soft lint-free cloth and clean from the centre of the Foil to the outer edge.
Any water used in the installation may take a few days to fully evaporate and will appear as a misty area over the entire surface until it clears.
Double-Release Installation (medium to long-term)
- Mark the target position of the Double-Release onto the outside of the glass.
- Make sure the substrate has been thoroughly cleaned and that any cleaning agents have been wiped away with water.
- Using a common sprayer for house plants, apply a mist of water/soap to the target area where the Double-Release will be installed.
- If an adjacent glass surface is available, apply the non-adhesive side of the Touch Foil to the glass by spraying it with water so the Touch Foil is temporarily attached.
- Separate and remove the release liner using sticky tape at the corner of the film, while at the same time spraying the Touch Foil adhesive surface with the water/soap mix. It is important to pull back the release layer close to the touch foil and make sure the foil does not lift off the substrate, ideally with the assistance of a second person.
- Wet your fingers before removing and turning around the touch foil for application to the substrate. Note: If you had to place the foil in the area of the final lamination to remove the release layer clean this area before you perform the final lamination of the foil.
- Align the touch foil at the top of the substrate, and then slowly lower the foil on to the substrate. Spray the top surface with the soap mix to avoid the squeegee sticking during lamination while the assistant holds the Touch Foil lightly but sufficiently to stop it from moving during the lamination process.
- Remove excess water using a squeegee working from the centre to the edges of the touch foil apply an even pressure. The electronics should be securely fixed to the window once the installation has dried.
If applying to a piece of glass or acrylic substrate allow at least 24 hours before moving, to allow sufficient evaporation of the remaining water to enable a good bond to the substrate.
If water bubbles remain under the foil do not be tempted to pierce to the foil to remove, these should evaporate over time, in some situations it can take more than a week depending on environmental conditions.
Unless you are operating in clean room conditions it is possible that some small imperfections may occur during the lamination process, do not lift the foil to try and remove these, as the bonding process will have started.
Cling Film Installation (short to medium-term)
- Mark the target position of the Cling Film onto the outside of the glass.
- Make sure the substrate has been thoroughly cleaned and that any cleaning agents have been wiped away with water.
- Using a common sprayer for house plants, apply a mist of water to the target area where the Cling Film will be installed.
- Separate the Cling Film from the liner using care not to stretch or crease the material.
- Place the top edge of the Cling Film into position and then slowly allow the entire Cling Film to gently attach to the glass.
- Apply a light mist of water onto the back surface of the cling film. It may help to have a very small amount of soap in the water to allow the squeegee to run smoothly over the cling film when you are removing the excess water from under the film.
- If large bubbles are trapped it may be necessary to lift the cling film off the surface and re-smooth it from that point rather than trying to force the bubble to the edge, which may stretch or crease the cling film.
- Squeegee the excess water out from under the cling film from the centre to the edges of the cling film.
- Slowly increase the squeegee pressure once you have removed the majority of the water from under the cling film. Do not allow the surface become dry as you laminate. Wait 30 minutes before applying the Touch Foil.
Touch Foil Installation Onto Cling Film (short to medium-term)
- Remove the Touch Foil from the packing with care. Store the packing roll if you intend to reuse the Foil at a later point.
- Roll out the Touch Foil onto a flat, smooth surface free that will not scratch the Foil. If cleaning is required, use a soft lint-free cloth and clean from the centre of the Foil to the outer edge.
- Using a common sprayer for house plants, apply a mist of water mixed with a very small amount of gentle soap to the back of the Cling Film.
- Carefully align the top edge of the interactive foil 2-3mm below the top edge of the cling film, and then slowly allow the entire Touch Foil to gently attach to the Cling Film.
- Using the squeegee work from the centre to the edges of the foil carefully smooth out any air bubbles that occur during installation.
- If the Touch Foil requires re-positioning carefully lift a corner of the interactive foil then gently remove the foil and repeat the installation process.
- If during the installation water enters the electronics of the interactive foil please allow sufficient time to dry before using the Interactive foil.
- The electronics should be secured using suitable double-sided tape.
- Allow 24 hours for the water used in the installation process to evaporate sufficiently for the adhesive to bond and 48 hours for all of the water to evaporate.
Removable Controller Installation
Once the lamination process has finished and the Touch Foil is sufficiently dry the electronics can now be added. Please note, if the Removable Controller is attached too soon after the lamination process the extra weight of the board may cause the Touch Foil to move position.
- Ensure that the Touch Foil is unplugged from the computer before removing/disconnecting the Controller Board from the Orange Ribbon Cable.
- Carefully lift the Clamping Clip as shown below, taking care not to over-extend it.
- Prepare the position of the Removable Controller in relation to lining with the position of the Orange Ribbon Cables. The Board’s components and the Gold Bar of the Ribbon Cables should be facing up.
- Gently insert the Connectors into position. The Ribbon Cable must be fully inserted until no Gold Bar can be seen. Once in, push the 2 Brown Bars in until it becomes locked.
- Once connected to the Touch Foil fold the flat side of the Electronic Control Board back up on itself towards the tail. Take the black Board cover, open the gap gently to allow smooth sliding and slide the ribbon and board inside. Do this slowly and carefully without damaging the Ribbon Cable or the parts of the Electronic Control Board.
- With the Electronic Control Board and Ribbon Cable safely covered all electronic components will be suitably protected.
Detachable Ground Wire Installation
For all USB Controller Boards, a female bullet connector along with a male bullet connector is enclosed with delivery of the Touch Foil and is for use with LCD installations where grounding to nearby metalwork is recommended.
- Align the Male and Female Bullet Connectors.
- Firmly connect the Male Bullet Connector with the Female Bullet Connector (attached to the Electronic Control Board). Ensure that they are fully pushed together in order properly connect.
- Connect the fork end of the Ground Wire to the metal chassis of the LCD or nearby metal framework. The whole system should be grounded to the same potential.
